“…what an amazing country.”

We had a great experience in Morocco! What an amazing country. It was so proud and intricate and culturally rich. Everywhere we turned, there was some gate or fountain or floor that was created with an enormous amount of artistry and care—the desire to make such practical (and public) things into pieces of art seems particularly Moroccan.

Driss was a wonderful guide. He is soft-spoken for someone in his profession, but he was knowledgeable and very caring. I came down with a day’s worth of dysentery in Marrakech, and Driss insisted that the riad bring me his personal lemon-milk stomach-tonic. He supervised its making and delivery. It was touching.

We had many high points. Watching the sunset at Erg Chebbi was an experience we’ll remember for the rest of our lives. Amy, who is a designer by trade, loved seeing the zelij pottery being shaped and fired and painted. And exploring the medinas of Fes and Marrakech was equal parts excitement and romance and utter confusion.

I could go on about the roller-coaster mountain drives, the taste of preserved lemons on chicken tagine, the enormous stippled-brass lamps hanging from shop ceilings… all very cool!

If there was a letdown, I would say that the Todra Gorge is an amazing natural wonder that, at least when we went, was overrun with tour buses and hawkers. You don’t really get a chance to appreciate the natural beauty. Too bad they don’t have any trails where you can get away from the crowd.

In all, we had a great experience with your company. Thank you to Kit and Ruth for setting everything up for us!
