We loved our driver, Laaziz. He was the consummate professional, courteous, and fun. He quickly became our friend, not just our driver and graciously answered a million questions about his homeland and religion. He never once took me anywhere that had a Turkish toilet – for which I am eternally grateful! LOL. Every single rest stop, restaurant, and guide he provided were great. We laughed about all we wanted was a bucket of ice and a Dr. Pepper so what did he do? Appeared the next day with a bucket of ice for the bottled water, of course! He watched over us like a mother hen and went above and beyond every single day. We sang our way through the high Atlas Mountains sharing Don McLean and Garth Brooks with him. We nicknamed him “Aladdin” because no matter the request…serious or joking, large or small…he delivered. As a very small token of our appreciation (and in addition to what we hope, was a generous tip) we gave him a small brass Aladdin lamp. His tears of appreciation were quickly followed by ours when we had to say goodbye.
The highlight for us was probably the night in the desert. The camel ride was fun (a check on my bucket list!), the sunset beautiful and the camp incredible. We were the only guests that night so it was special. We slept better (and colder – which was great!) in our tent than any other night of the trip. We enjoyed meeting Hussein, the Berber cook at the camp. He was very nice and gave us a couple of hand carved spoons, which we love.
We enjoyed the Fes Medina more than the one in Marrakech but they both overwhelmed every sense, as you know. I might suggest that you ask your clients if they would like a “shopping” guide in Fes and Marrakech. Laaziz and the guides did a good job (trust me, we had no problem shopping or buying!) but, because the choices are so overwhelming, it would have be nice to have had a “personal shopper.”
All of the riads were incredible in every way but we, particularly, enjoyed L’Ma Lodge and wish we could have stayed there longer.
